Daisuke Hori, a 40-year-old entrepreneur from Hyogo, Japan, has made headlines with his unconventional sleep habits. It is reported that for nearly 12 years, Hori has followed to a strict sleep schedule of just 30 minutes per day, believing this would "double" his life expectancy. He claims that this intense practice has significantly improved his work efficiency.
Normal Sleep Vs. Hori's Sleeping Schedule:
The 40-year-old Daisuke Hori's approach challenges the established sleeping approach, which typically advocates for 6-8 hours of sleep to maintain optimal health.
Instead, Daisuke Hori has trained his body and mind to function effectively on minimal sleep, claiming that high-quality rest is more beneficial than extended periods of sleep. He cites examples of professionals who manage with shorter sleep durations while maintaining high performance, such as doctors and firefighters.
In a recent feature on the South China Morning Post, Hori explained that engaging in exercise or drinking coffee an hour before meals can help combat drowsiness. He believes that focusing on deep, restorative sleep is key for those who need sustained concentration.
Daisuke Hori In Reality Show:
Hori's claims were put to the test on a reality show called "Will You Go With Me?" aired by Japan's Yomiuri TV. The show documented his daily routine, including an instance where Hori slept for just 26 minutes, yet managed to wake up refreshed, eat breakfast, work, and exercise.
In addition to his personal practice, Hori founded the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association in 2016. Through this organization, he has trained over 2,100 individuals to adopt ultra-short sleep habits.
Man Without Sleep:
In a similarly remarkable case, an 80-year-old Vietnamese man named Thai Ngoc claims to have gone without sleep for over 60 years. After a fever in 1962, Ngoc reportedly lost his ability to sleep, and despite numerous treatments and medications, his condition has remained unchanged.
