The tech giant Apple plans to introduce built-in call recording options on iPhones with the iOS 18. It is said that, the call recording function will utilize AI technology to transcribe voice calls.
During Apple's WWDC 2024, it was announced that iPhones would now have the option for call recording, a feature that was previously unavailable on the phones. iPhone users had previously relied on third-party apps for call recording, but now Apple has decided to include the feature as an inbuilt option.
The call recording option will be available on the screen during calls. Users can initiate the recording by tapping the designated option, and an alert will be sent to the other party.
The iPhone also included a feature for transcribing voice recordings. Users could move the recordings to the Notes app, where the app would convert the recordings into text using AI. This feature would be helpful for online business meetings.
Regarding transcriptions the tech giant said, “Record and transcribe a live call directly from the Phone app.” The call recording iOS 18 feature will be available in English, in U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, and in Spanish in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain. The feature will also arrive in France, Germany, Japan, China, and Brazil in their native languages,”
In addition to that, the Apple transcription with the help of AI will support many languages, including English (U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore), Spanish (U.S., Mexico, Spain), French (France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland, Taiwan), Cantonese (China mainland, Hong Kong), and Portuguese (Brazil).
The iPhone also introduces a search interface for call history to easily retrieve past calls to help users find relevant information soon. Autofill functionality for phone numbers will be implied, simplifying the dialing process by automatically completing digits as users type. However, users handling multiple SIM cards will benefit from the option to switch between them during ongoing calls.
This update has delighted iPhone users as it finally includes the much-awaited call recording feature, which was considered as a much noted drawback.
