Will 15 districts go to intense lockdown due to severe COVID 19? Chief Secretary K.Shanmugam, today July 6 evening is having a virtual meeting with 15 district collectors to control the raising coronavirus cases. After four days of above four thousand infections in Tamil Nadu, today, the infection cases are only 3,827 to total to 1,14,978. Also, with today's 61 deaths, the total death toll is 1571. Former minister Valarmathi is admitted in a private hospital in Chennai for COVID 19 treatment.
With nearly 35,000 samples tested today, the positivity rate is far less compared to the last few days. Today 3,793 people were discharged after successful treatment, which is nearly equal to that of the new cases. Only with an increase in tests and a decrease in positive cases and an increase of recovered patients will put an end to this pandemic in Tamil Nadu.
Coronavirus in India: On this 104th day of lockdown in India, after reaching the third position in the worst affected countries list worldwide, the coronavirus infections are to cross seven lakhs today. Dr. Lokesh Sharma, ICMR's media coordinator, says that the rise in the cases is due to the doubling of the testing of 1.5 from May 25 to 3 lakhs. He also confirmed that more than one crore testing had been done as of today. But it is not even one percent of the 140 crores Indian population. Also, as per ICMR, the tests doubled only from May 25, but the lockdown started two months earlier on March 25.
ICMR clarification on vaccine use from Independence day: ICMR also clarified the letter to bring the Covaxin, a COVID 19 vaccine for public use before August 15. The letter said it did not pressurize the 12 hospitals but asked them to only cut the red-tapism in making the use of the vaccine before August 15. Many scientists are afraid of the consequences of the vaccine without proper time for all the necessary tests. Opposition parties warn that the government is trying to gain political mileage in the coming assembly elections in Bihar by emergently bringing the vaccine on the Independence day.
