On July 17th, a mother elephant and her calf entered the residential area of Thadagam in Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Coimbatore, and attempted to attack the locals. This startling incident was captured, posted on social media, and quickly went viral.
Residents of Thiruvalluvar Street watched the elephants from their terrace and near the front gates. The elephants casually strolled in the streets, and suddenly, the mother elephant forcefully nudged a house gate, causing a brief panic among the residents, who swiftly retreated indoors for safety.
It was reported that the elephant's calf also chased a man in the area. The people on the terrace recorded the video on their phones and posted it on social media, where it became viral.
The frontline officers from the Coimbatore forest department swiftly responded to the situation and promptly arrived at the scene. They chased the elephants, which are from the reserve forest, back into the forest. It is believed that the elephants may have entered the area in search of food.
Following the incident, the forest department issued advisories to the local residents, urging caution, especially during nighttime hours. Given the proximity to the reserve forest, where wildlife frequently roams in search of food and water, staying indoors and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities after dark became a necessary safety precaution.
