TN Weather Report: Rainfall Expected Across 17 Districts

The Chennai Meteorological Department has announced that a zonal low circulation is affecting the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain has been impacting several areas, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur districts. 

The intensity of the rain reduced overnight but picked up again in the early hours of the morning. In Chennai, the constant rain has led to water accumulation on the roads, causing flooding for motorists. Public transportation has also been affected, with buses and electric trains facing delays. 

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain in several locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in isolated areas for the following week. 

Heavy rain is anticipated at specific locations including Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Nilgiris districts, as well as in the ghat areas of Coimbatore district and Karaikal. 

Thunderstorms and lightning may occur at one or two places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with strong surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph expected in these regions.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the District Collectors of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram have decided that schools will remain open. They have stated that the schools will function as usual due to the moderate nature of the rains. 

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of moderate rain continuing in some parts of 17 districts of Tamil Nadu.
