TN Weather Report: 10 Districts Under Heavy Rainfall Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across 10 districts across Tamil Nadu on October 8, with the possibility of widespread showers continuing until October 13.

As the Northeast Monsoon gains strength, many districts have already been experiencing chilly rain, and further heavy rainfall is expected.

An atmospheric low-pressure system over Kerala and South Tamil Nadu is contributing to widespread rainfall across the state. The Meteorological Department predicts light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning in certain areas.

Heavy Rainfall Alert:

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in isolated areas in the following districts Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, and Erode districts.

The following day (October 9) heavy rain is expected in isolated places in Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts.

Orange Alert For 10th October:

An Orange Alert has been issued for three districts Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, and Thanjavur on October 10. Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious as heavy rains are expected.

Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places in Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts.

Chennai:

In Chennai, the weather will remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours. Light rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is expected in a few parts of the city.

Coimbatore:

Coimbatore will experience a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 33°C, while the minimum will dip to 23°C.

Fishermen Warning:

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for fishermen operating in the coastal areas of South Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kumari Sea. 

From October 8 until October 11, maximum wind gusts of up to 55 km/h are expected, with the potential for hurricane-force winds. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during this period.
