The meteorological department issued a weather report stating a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. This is expected to bring heavy rain to eight districts in North Tamil Nadu on August 31 and a yellow alert is issued.

What Is Deep Depression?

During the monsoon season, storms develop as warm ocean waters evaporate and form clouds. When this process continues at a specific location, a low-pressure area can develop into a depression. The present system, which has evolved into a deep depression, is moving toward Odisha.

In Tamil Nadu, no significant storms have occurred this year so far. The deep depression now poses a risk of heavy rainfall in eight North Tamil Nadu districts. In this case, Tiruvallur, Tirupur, Theni, and Tirunelveli received a yellow alert for August 31.

Citizens should expect light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. In addition to rain, strong surface winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h are anticipated across Tamil Nadu.

Chennai:

According to the meteorological department, partly cloudy skies with periods of light to moderate rain, are accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning will be expected around Chennai for the next hours. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 34°C, with the minimum around 27°C.

Coimbatore:

The Coimbatore weather as of now is partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be around 32°C, with the minimum around 23°C.
