In addition, a Low-Pressure Area has formed over the East-Central Bay of Bengal and the North Andaman Sea, following an upper air cyclonic circulation. This system developed early morning (05:30 IST) on October 21, 2024, and is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today.

This cyclonic low-pressure named Dana is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23, bringing heavy rains to many districts of Tamil Nadu.

The department further stated that the cyclonic circulation over the sea has been causing moderate rainfalls in Chennai and adjoining districts including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur. Additionally, the low-pressure area is very likely to move northwestwards and reach the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24.
