Tamil Nadu Budget 2024: Key Highlights On Education And Employment

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu made various important announcements in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2024 today. The key highlights of education, Employment and women empowerment are listed below.

• To turn poor students who studied in government schools into achievers and increase enrollment in higher education for government school students, the Tamil Puthalvan scheme will be introduced in the coming financial year. 
• The Pudhumai Pen Scheme, which will provide ₹1000 per month to college-going female students from government schools, will be extended to female students studying in Tamil medium in government-aided schools from this year. Three hundred seventy crore rupees will be allocated for this.
• One thousand rupees will be paid directly into their bank account every month to help the students studying in government schools from 6th to 12th standard to buy textbooks and other necessities to improve their education.
• The government will bear the entire cost of college education of the third gender.
• The government also announced the formation of 10,000 new women Self Help Groups (SHGs), and credit linkages, and outlined Rs 35,000 crore allocation for the same, in addition to launching ‘Thozhi Viduthigal,’ a Rs 26 crore project which involves opening new hostels for working women.
• He has announced in the budget that Rs.4,625 crore has been received and sent to the capital allocation fund of the central government to extend the metro service from Chennai airport to Kilambakkam bus terminus.
• An allocation of ₹5 crore will be made to prepare a detailed project report for restoration of rivers in Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy and Erode.
• In the North Chennai Development Scheme, an allocation of Rs.1,946 crore was made. Steps will be taken to rehabilitate water bodies, including Adyar and Kosasthalaiyar.
• A fund allocation of Rs.300 crore for road expansion in urban areas will be made. An allocation of ₹500 crore will be made for Singara Chennai 2 project. 
• 10.₹300 crore will be allocated for road widening in Chennai. ₹100 crore will be allocated for developing coastal areas in Chennai. ₹1000 crore will be allocated for development works in North Chennai region.
• 11. A new scheme called the Thayumanavar Scheme is introduced. The government decided to identify the 2.2% of people living below the poverty line and improve their standard of living. The government promises to lift 5 lakh extremely low-income families out of poverty by providing integrated government assistance.
• 12. A new Chipkaart Park will be set up at Thanjavur at a cost of ₹120 crore. A textile park will be set up at Virudhunagar, Salem. New IT parks are being set up in Thanjavur, Salem, Vellore, Tirupur and Tuticorin districts. This will create employment for 13,000 people.
• Startups in the linguistic domain will receive financial aid worth ₹5 crore to support language technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
• An investment of ₹17 crore has been made to establish an open auditorium in Keezhadi. This initiative aims to promote cultural events and display the ongoing archaeological excavations in the region.
•  An investment of ₹500 crore has been made to construct a film city on the outskirts of Chennai. This initiative is aimed at boosting the state's film industry and will be developed as a public-private partnership.

It is expected that many development can be seen in this year in Tamil Nadu. Highlighting the education and the employments are considered as the key listing.
