Pongal 2024: Tamil Nadu Government To Distribute Gift Hamper

On Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu government released a list of items in the Pongal gift hamper designated for distribution to ration card holders within the state and residents of rehabilitation camps for Sri Lankan Tamils.

According to reports, the Tamil Nadu government is consulting on giving Rs.1000 cash in the Pongal gift package. Ration card holders in Tamil Nadu are given cash and raw rice, jaggery or sugar and sugarcane for Pongal every year on the occasion of the Pongal festival.

Like last year, there was an expectation that Rs.1,000 in cash and a Pongal gift would be given this year as well, but due to the distribution of relief funds, the amount is expected to be reduced.

In this case, the ordinance regarding the collection of Pongal gifts was issued. The ordinance contained details of the Pongal gift package but did not announce the cash gift. 

It is said that the government is consulting on giving a cash prize of Rs.1000, and the relevant departments are distributing the tokens for the Pongal gift package in a few days and next week. It is expected the cash gift will be given like every year.
