Ooty To Mettupalayam, Coonoor And Kotagiri Road Block And Landslides

Due to heavy rains, traffic has been affected by landslides on the Mettupalayam-Kothagiri road and the Mettupalayam-Coonoor road. The District Collector has requested tourists not to visit the Nilgiris.
Nilgiris District Collector Aruna has declared a holiday only for schools across the district. In this case, a tree fell on a government bus in the Burliyar area on Mettupalayam Road in Coonoor, affecting the traffic there.
Similarly, on the Kothagiri Mettupalayam road, the traffic in the area was affected for more than an hour due to trees falling across the road in the Kunjapanai area.
Due to this, the whole road is covered with mud. A government transport corporation bus passed through got stuck in the mud. Following this, all the passengers travelling in the bus were rescued safely and sent to Mettupalayam. The Highways Department is carrying out the work of removing landslides at Kunjapanai on the Mettupalayam-Kothagiri road.
Similarly, on the road from Mettupalayam to Coonoor from Kallarani to Coonoor, traffic has been affected due to landslides and rock falls at many places.
Both roads are cut off, and the authorities are working to repair the roads quickly and resume the traffic. The traffic police have put barricades on Kotagiri and Coonoor roads and are advising the people.
District Collector Aruna has appealed to tourists to avoid visiting Nilgiris due to continuous heavy rains in the Kotagiri and Coonoor regions. The district collector also said that 2 Tamilnadu disaster rescue teams are coming from Coimbatore for road maintenance work.
