New Electricity Tariff Hike In Tamil Nadu From Today

Minister Senthil Balaji had announced changes in electricity tariffs in Tamil Nadu. According to it, free electricity up to 100 units will continue to be provided to all household consumers. Also, Rs.27.50 per month for 63.35 lakh household electricity consumers (26.73 per cent) consuming up to 200 units for two months and Rs.72.50 per month for 36.25 lakh household electricity consumers (15.30 per cent) consuming up to 400 units of electricity.
18.82 lakh household power consumers (7.94 per cent) consume Rs.147.50 per month, 10.56 lakh household power consumers (4.46 per cent) consume up to 500 units of Rs.297.50 per month, and 3.14 lakh consume up to 600 units. He also said it is proposed to increase the tariff for household electricity consumers (1.32 per cent) by Rs.155.
Also, electricity subsidy, which is currently being given to cottage agriculture, handloom, power loom and places of worship, will continue to be provided. Rs.275 per month for 1.96 lakh household power consumers (0.83 per cent) with total power consumption up to 700 units for two months and Rs.395 per month for 1.26 lakh household power consumers (0.53 per cent) with total power consumption up to 800 units per month.
He also informed that it is proposed to implement 100 units of free electricity and electricity subsidy for reduced electricity if the consumer wants it through the "self-waiver of electricity subsidy" scheme. In this case, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission had ordered that opinions can be given on the electricity tariff hike.
Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission had announced that electricity tariff details would be published on the Electricity Board's websites, and 30 days had been given to give comments regarding the electricity tariff hike.
