The Reason Behind Thaipusam festival:
Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated by the Tamils all over the world. Since it falls on the solar month of Thai or Makara in Hindu calenders, it is called Thaipusam. Apart from many places in Tamil Nadu, it is grandly celebrated in Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, and other places. It is to commemorate the occasion of Goddess Parvati giving her son Lord Muruga a spear or Vel to destroy the demon Soorapadam. This year the Thaipusam is on February 8 and begins its Nakshatram at 12:01 AM and ends at 10:05 PM.
Accordingly, the Maruthamalai Subramaniyasamy temple authorities have announced various celebrations for the eleven days functions for this year Thaipusam. It starts on Saturday, February 1, and ends on Tuesday, February 11. HRCE or Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department of the Tamil Nadu government has made elaborate arrangements for the eleven days function including
