Velliangiri Hills is considered one of the most powerful holy places in the South. Devotees come from various states of India to trek to Coimbatore Velliangiri on the eve of Mahashivratri. In this case, the forest department has permitted the devotees to climb the Velliangiri hills from February 13 to May 31.
Velliangiri Hill is a well-known mountain in Tamil Nadu that attracts thousands of devotees every day. The mountain has a height of approximately 3,500 feet and is located in Poondi. The mountain has seven peaks and stretches over a distance of five and a half kilometers.
Every year, during the Mahashivratri festival, the crowd will be similar to the one who visits the Isha Yoga Center. In this case, the forest department gives permission to climb the Velliangiri Hill from February 13 to May 31. There is a high possibility of crowds, especially on April 1 and 14.
A policy has been implemented to reduce devotees' use of plastic bottles during hill treks. At the start of the trek, devotees need to purchase a sticker for Rs. 10, which will be affixed to their plastic bottle. If they return their bottle at the end of the trek, they will receive a refund of the sticker amount. This initiative aims to encourage the responsible disposal of plastic waste and promote eco-friendly practices among devotees.
The distance between Coimbatore and Isha Yoga Center is around 35 km, and the government Bus travel time is around 01:30 hrs. The government bus timings help the devotees spend more time at the temple. The Coimbatore forest division officials have deployed more than 80 personnel in the area, including 30 staff exclusively to prevent them from entering areas where wild elephants move.
