On account of increasing COVID cases, the Tamil Nadu government ordered Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) to close entirely after May. During April It emerged as a major hotspot of coronavirus, so the Chief Minister decided to shift the wholesale market to Madhavaram and Thirumazhisai.
Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramaippu president A M Vikramaraja made a demand to reopen the market for the sake of poor merchants. Though many protests were fell out government hesitated to open the KWMC. The traders pressured CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) to announce the reopening date. But the officials delays commit the date.
After many protests, today A M Vikramaraja met Tamil Nadu Cheif Minister and discussed the opening of the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC). He rejoiced about the meeting and said, "I'm very pleased to meet CM and demand the reopening of KWMC. He assured that he would reopen the market very soon." The meeting occurred before some officials and traders agreed to postpone the protests.
