Minister of Transport Sivashankar and Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Sekar Babu inspected the Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai following the congestion and protest by the public.
Kilambakkam bus terminus has been in talks and criticism since its inauguration. To be more detailed, the problems have been going on since the buses from the Koyambedu bus stand to the south districts started operating from the Kilambakkam bus terminal.
As North Chennai passengers were affected, 160 buses going to Trichy, Kumbakonam, Kallakurichi, Salem and other towns are being operated from Madhavaram Suburban Bus Station for their convenience.
Passengers staged a strike on Friday night as not enough buses were running from the Kilambakkam bus terminal to various cities, including southern districts. Women and children faced difficulties due to this issue. The photos and videos of the public sleeping and waiting on the floor went viral on social media, which triggered the opposite parties.
On Saturday, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the DMK government for inaugurating the Kilambakkam bus terminus without ensuring proper connectivity and completing the essential infrastructure works.
In this situation, Minister Sivasankar and Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Sekar Babu inspected the Kilambakkam bus stand this morning. Later, Transport Minister Sivashankar told reporters:
In this regard, Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Sivashankar met and spoke to the media. Then he said, "There is a complaint of lack of buses only at midnight. There is no problem of shortage of buses in the morning and evening. 133 buses went to Trichy last night. Due to the large number of passengers, 130 additional buses were run."
H also said, "Some are doing this intentionally with the aim of increasing the number of boarders on omnibuses. Some omnibus owners are making it look like the Koyambedu bus station is running again."
