Police Assures A Special Investigation Team to Probe the Case:

A 19-year-old young IIT Student named Fathima Lateef found hanging in her hostel room on Saturday, at IIT Madras. Fathima is pursuing her 1st year Under Graduation in the stream of Humanities, and she is from Kollam. The incident came to notice when her family tried to call her and went unanswered, so they called her inmates to check for her. Her Friends found that the room was locked inside and broke them to find herself hanging. This issue was reported to the Management, Police, and her family immediately.

The Police said that there were no suicide notes were found in her room, and the investigation is going on. On Tuesday, Fathima’s family members met Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and demanded justice for her daughter’s death. They also submitted the suicide note sent by Fathima, mentioning the professor named “Sudharsan Padmanabhan” was the reason behind her death. He kept harassing and humiliating her constantly in the name of her caste, which made her take this wrong decision, they added citing that texted suicide note. Her parents claimed that the Police Officials and the Management are trying to cover up this case.

Abdul Lateef, who was working in Saudi Arabia, is the Father of Fathima Lateef. Her death shocked the entire family, and she is the eldest among three daughters, he added. The Chennai Police Commissioner A.K Vishwanath addressed the media that the individuals behind this incident will be punished. On Wednesday morning, a group of students from IIT Madras and the students federation broke into a massive protest demanding justice for the 19yr old Student. 

The assurance was given that this matter will be passed on to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edapadi K Palaniswami, DGP’s, and National Human Rights Commission to take the necessary actions. As many as 4 Students have lost their lives within the IIT Campus due to various reasons, as per recent reports. This issue was also spoken across Social Media, and the hashtag named #JusticeForFathima kept trending worldwide.

Now, the case has been reportedly moved to the central Crime Branch for investigation following the assurance given by the Police Commissioner, A.K Vishwanath.
