Dowry Issue: Kanyakumari Newlywed Woman Suicide Case In Detail

In Kanyakumari, a newlywed woman commits suicide just 6 months into the marriage due to her Mother-in-law's torture. It is reported that the dead Coimbatore woman faced dowry issues in her in-law's house.

Karthik and Sruthi Babu Marriage:

Karthik is from the Suchindram area of Kanyakumari district and works with a power board. He married Sruthi Babu, the daughter of Babu from Periyanayakan Palayam in Coimbatore, six months ago.

For their marriage, Sruthi's parents provided 45 pounds of gold and gifts worth around 35 lakhs. After marriage, Shruti Babu lived in her husband's house in Suchindram. In this case, it is said that three months after the wedding, Sruthi began to face severe mistreatment from her mother-in-law.

In this situation, due to the constant issues with his mother-in-law, Sruthi Babu committed suicide by hanging herself at her husband's house recently. A complaint has been filed by the Sruthi's parents with the Suchindram police, who have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.

As part of the investigation, the police have interrogated Karthik, his mother, Shenbagavalli, and other relatives. The incident gained attention when Shruti Babu sent an audio message to her mother on WhatsApp, stating that she had taken her own life due to her mother-in-law's mistreatment.

Sruthi's Audio Note Before Suicide:

In the audio, Sruthi expresses her distress over her mother-in-law's repressive behaviour, stating that Sruthi is not allowed to sit and eat with her husband and eat on a plate after he finishes. She emphasizes that her husband is not involved in the abuse.

Additionally, Sruthi recounts how her mother-in-law often threatened to send her back to Coimbatore (Sruthi Home) and insisted that she should not return, which affected her. She also mentioned her wish for her family to take her to Coimbatore for her last rites, rejecting her mother-in-law's "culture." The audio has since gone viral on social media, drawing significant attention to her situation.

Mother-In-Law Suicide Attempt:

In the aftermath of Sruthi's tragic suicide, her mother-in-law Shenbagavalli attempted to take her own life by consuming poison out of fear of being arrested. But, her relatives intervened and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving critical medical treatment. The authorities at the Suchindram police station are actively investigating the situation.
