Cyclone Tauktae: Likely To Emerge Into A Severe Storm

Following the Tauktae Cyclone warning, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held consultations with meteorological officials. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has advised that relief work should be carried out as a precautionary measure in the areas affected by the Tauktae Cyclone.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast Tauktae Cyclone in the Arabian Sea will cross the coast in Gujarat on the 18th. 

Due to this, states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have been forecast to receive heavy rains. The National Disaster Rescue Force has also been deployed as the respective state governments are taking precautionary measures to deal with the impact of the storm.

The Meteorological Centre has warned of heavy rain in few districts of Tamil Nadu, namely  Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Kanyakumari, Erode, Krishnagiri, Salem, and Dindigul district.

A meeting was held at the Tamil Nadu secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding the initiatives to be done before the Tauktae Cyclone and heavy rain blocks the state. 

The meeting was attended by Revenue Disaster Management Commissioner Atulya Misra, Revenue Commissioner Phanindra Reddy, and Meteorological Center officials.

During the meeting, the meteorological officials said that the districts will receive heavy rain in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister MK Stalin has also instructed the authorities to carry out the relief works in the affected areas.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has directed the concerned authorities to take appropriate action after the remaining fishing boats have returned to shore.

The Kerala government has issued a red alert for eight districts following a warning from the Indian Meteorological Department the Tauktae Cyclone is likely to cross the coast in the next 24 hours.

Red Alert has been issued for eight districts, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Fishers have been warned not to go to sea until May 17 due to Tauktae Cyclone.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that Tauktae will intensify into a severe wind of 150-160 kph, affecting several districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat.
