Due to the ongoing construction of the Avinashi Flyover, there has been a significant increase in traffic congestion in Coimbatore, mainly affecting areas such as Lakshmi Mills, Nava India, Hope College, and Peelamedu.
This Coimbatore traffic congestion has caused considerable frustration among office-goers, students, and daily commuters. Despite early departures, many are still encountering heavy traffic, leading to delays and dissatisfaction.
Traffic Diversions and Alternate Routes:
In order to alleviate traffic congestion, the Commissioner of Police's office has implemented new traffic diversions effective from August 18, 2024.
If you are traveling from Gandhipuram to Lakshmi Mills, SNR junction, or PSG College towards Avinashi Road, it is instructed to take a left at Pioneer Mill Road, proceed to Avinashi Road Junction, and then take the Gandhimanagar Flyover. From there, the route turns onto Gandhimanagar Junction Thaneerpandal Road, followed by a right turn via Tidel Park Road and Codissia Road to reach Avinashi Road.
Those headed to the airport, Tirupur, Erode, or Salem from R.S.Puram, Thadagam Road, 100 feet road, or Sivananda Colony areas via Avinashi Road can now access Avinashi Road via Sathi Road, Ganapati, Vilankurichi, and Kalapatti Naal Road.
And lastly, if your destination is Tirupur, Erode, or Salem from Ukkadam and Racecourse areas, you can conveniently reach your destinations via L&T ByPass through Sungam, Ramanathapuram, Singanallur, and Ondipudur.
Avinashi Road:
Avinashi Road is an important route in Coimbatore, connecting the city to major destinations such as Tirupur, Erode, Salem, and Chennai. This road hosts numerous important institutions, schools, and colleges, making it the hub of Coimbatore.
However, because of this significance also leads to severe traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. Key areas like Lakshmi Mills, Nava India, Hope College, and Peelamedu experience particularly heavy traffic. The morning and evening rush see a high volume of students and motorists, worsening the congestion.
Avinashi Flyover Construction :
To address these traffic issues, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed the construction of a flyover extending from Goldwins to Uppilipalayam Junction. This project aims to help traffic jams and improve the flow of vehicles, enhancing overall commute efficiency along Avinashi Road.
The construction of the 10.1 km Avinashi Flyover, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,621 crore, has been underway since 2020. The project is progressing rapidly, with traffic adjustments being made periodically to accommodate construction activities.
