Coimbatore: Heavy Rain Expected Across The Cities From Today

Heavy rain has been lashing in many parts of Tamil Nadu for the past few days. Chennai Meteorological Center said that this low-pressure system will likely move towards the northwest and strengthen as a deep pressure zone in the Central Arabian Sea, and separate atmospheric circulation is seen in South Tamil Nadu and the South Bay of Bengal. Thus, the air pressure in the Arabian Sea is likely to move westward.

As per the Chennai Meteorological Center, today heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry & Karaikal.

Coimbatore Rains:

Coimbatore residents have been experiencing heavy rain, thunder, and lightning for the past week. Yesterday (13.10.2024), heavy lightning struck in some areas, including including Singanallur, Ramanathapuram, Saravanampatti, Ganapathy, Gandhipuram, Airport, Vilangurichi, Kuniyamuthur, Goundampalayam, Avinasi Road in the afternoon. 

Water stagnation was reported in Gandhipuram, Sivanandha Colony, GN Mills, and Thudiyalur. The photos and videos went viral on social media. A few parts of Coimbatore city looked similar to Chennai during the rain.

Rainwater has entered homes in various parts of Coimbatore. According to the notice issued by the District Collector regarding the impact of heavy rains in urban areas of Coimbatore, people living in damaged houses should be immediately relocated to a safe place.

Coimbatore Private Bus Stuck In Rain Water:

A private bus got submerged in rainwater under the railway flyover in the Saibaba Kovil area of ​​Coimbatore. The passengers travelling in the bus were rescued safely with the help of the fire brigade. The bus routes were diverted via Pudhupalam, and the rainwater was later cleared.

Traffic was severely affected due to this. In particular, motorists faced severe difficulties due to stagnant rainwater in low-lying areas. 

Indian Meteorological Department Warning:

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the low-pressure area that will develop over the Bay of Bengal tomorrow will strengthen into a deep low-pressure area. As it may prevail along the coast of North Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu may receive very heavy rains. An orange warning for heavy rain has been issued from today October 14 to October 16.
