A van driver from Tiruppur, Malayappan, put his life on the line to save the lives of 20 school kids. His heroic act received recognition from the public and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Malayappan, 49, lived in Vellakoil and was employed as a van driver for a private school. His wife, Lalitha, worked alongside him as an assistant. On July 24, Malayappan picked up 20 students from the school as usual.
While driving the van on the Coimbatore-Trichy National Highway near Vellakoil Police Station, Malayappan suddenly felt chest pain. Despite his condition, he managed to safely pull over to the side of the highway, ensuring the children were out of harm's way before losing consciousness.
Upon witnessing this, Lalita promptly rushed Malayappan to Kangayam Hospital. The doctors there concluded that he had passed away due to a heart attack.
Malayappan's spontaneous bravery in prioritizing the safety of the children even during his own medical emergency has deeply touched many. He has received posthumous praise from a multitude of people, and social media is flooded with tributes and photos honoring his selflessness and courage.
