The death of a newborn baby girl has caused a stir and disappointment in the locality and is now going viral on the internet.
On Sunday, December 10, the stillborn baby girl from Pulianthope in north Chennai, who tragically lost her life amidst floods, was finally buried.
Amidst the heavy rain, Cyclone Michaung, and flood, many women and children faced unimaginable trouble as there were no transportation facilities even for emergencies. Many died in this disaster.
In this situation, the pregnant woman, Sowmya, experienced labour pain on December 5, but due to the heavily flooded neighbourhood, her husband Masood and relatives were unable to get her to a hospital in time. When Masood was searching for an Ambulance, the Baby was born but didn't cry.
Knowing the situation, the neighbours said that the Baby was dead. Hearing this, Masood asked the older woman about the Baby's condition, and she told him to immediately take the Baby to the Hospital.
With no Ambulance available, neighbours came together to transport the mother and the newborn by fish cart to the government hospital. Masood told a private news channel that he couldn't reach the 108 ambulances due to network issues.
When Masood took the Baby to the G3 Government hospital, he confirmed that his Baby was dead. Unfortunately, upon reaching the Hospital, they found the gates locked with no response from within.
Massod was struggling hard to cut the umbilical cord of the Girl Baby. Subsequently, he took them to the Muthu Hospital, but the doctors initially refused to treat the mother and the newborn. He said that the doctors and the nurse were talking secretly that the Baby was dead.
Hearing this, Masood pleaded to Doctors to save his wife, Sowmiya and also said that he was aware of Baby's death. With the help of his brother, he called the Police lady and forwarded the treatment. He was asked to pay Rs.2500 for the treatment. The doctor told them to leave the Hospital as they did not need commotion.
After struggling to shift from boat to Ambulance to Tata Ac, he finally reached the KMC. Then, the Baby was taken to the mortuary. Then, he was asked to bring the Aadhar Card the next morning, and he was asked to bring a letter from the police station.
When he approached the station, they said there were no issues and to speak to the Hospital. Masood expressed his financial inability to bury the Baby or cover the cremation costs, adding that he was unaware of the condition of the Baby's body in the mortuary four days after her tragic passing.
Even when he approached the mosque to bury the Baby, they asked for the death certificate. Later, Masood received his Baby's body in a small box, which made the netizens and the common people more angry at the Government hospital. Finally, the Baby was laid to rest after five days. A complaint has now been registered with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
