FasTag: A few Toll Plazas in Chennai Will Not Accept FasTag

From 15th December, the Central Government plans to implement Fastag toll payments throughout the country. There are thousands of toll functioning to provide a smooth and seamless transition from one place to another for all commuters.

The Government of India plans to replace the ongoing manual payment methods with Fastag Scanning Schemes in-order to encourage digital transactions and paving the way for future development.

Fastag is generally an online portal which deducts the required toll charges automatically, without spending too much time on waiting in toll plazas. It's more reliable and very easy to use because of its user-friendly specifications. Fastag is based on the concept of advanced technology known as Radio – Frequency Identification (RFID), and it's been stamped on the windscreen of your vehicles for quick access.

At present, there are around 180 toll plazas that are accepting the Fastag Schemes. It has a validity of 5 years and needs to be recharged as per your requirements.

One of the Official said that it is not applicable for the State Highways in Chennai. This Premium expressway has five toll plazas, which include Perungudi, Sholinganallur, Navalur, Medavakkam, and Thoraipakkam will follow the oldest mode of manual payments.

This major route was used by more than 1 Lakh people daily for their daily works. These five tolls are placed in the zone of East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road. 

People around 7 km radius use the smart card facilities for traveling to different places and will be renewed each year. Chennai is one the largest IT hub of the nation, and it's a monumental task to link all these members into this scheme, he added. But the travelers feel that this facility should be enforced immediately to avoid excess traffic and prolonged wait time.
