An older man Vivekanandan (57), who was arrested in the Puducherry minor rape and murder case of a 9-year-old girl, committed suicide by hanging himself in the jail.

The rape and murder of the missing girl in Puducherry caused a huge stir across the nation in March. Puducherry Nine-Year-Old Girl Arthi was rape and murder case created a tag for Arthi as 'Puducherry Missing Girl' following the intense search since the missing complaint was lodged.

After filing a complaint, they were searching day and night to trace Aarthi using sniffer dogs. Police have also looked into some of the CCTV footage in which Aarthi was last seen. After days, she was found in the dead state. The girl's body was put in a sack and thrown into the sewer with her hands and legs tied. 

Following the autopsy, it was revealed that the minor was raped and then thrown into the sewer. Relatives and the public staged a protest demanding action against the killers. Social media was trending with the hashtags Justice for Arthi. This gathered a lot of support for the minor girls' family.

In the investigation conducted by the police, it came to light that Karunas, 19, and Vivekanandan, 57, from Cholai Nagar School Road, took the girl who was playing near the house and raped her. While interrogating Karunas, he cut his arms and legs with the blade he had. 

With this, the police came to know that the accused was drugged. During the interrogation, he confessed to killing the girl child Aarthi. Subsequently, the police charged and arrested both of them under the POCSO Act and they were sent to Central Jail.

In this situation, it is said that Vivekanandan committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth in the toilet of the prison. The prison guards recovered the body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem.
