NLC India, which operates in Neyveli, Cuddalore district, had acquired land in Brahmadevi, Keel Valayamadevi, Karivetti and surrounding villages for the 2nd mine expansion project.
But the villagers staged several protests demanding proper compensation for the acquired land. After the NLC promised to fulfil some demands, some people did not agree to the negotiations.
The complete blockade started today. While District Collector Balasubramaniam has already announced that shops can be opened and vehicles can be operated in Cuddalore, traders can open their shops without fear.
SP has said that strict action will be taken if the shop is forced to close. In Cuddalore, 7000 policemen have been deployed for security regarding the call for a complete blockade. Also, the police arrested 40 people as a precaution against the complete blockade.
