The second and final solar eclipse of 2024, an annular solar eclipse, will occur on October 2. People around the world are excited to witness the ring of fire effect.
The solar eclipses created an impact both scientifically and traditionally among the people. In this case, this solar eclipse occurred on October 2 just 15 days after a lunar eclipse, and coincides with the New Moon, a time traditionally observed for honoring ancestors.
What is an Annular Solar Eclipse?
An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, but is at or near its farthest point from Earth. As a result, it doesn’t completely cover the Sun, creating a captivating "ring of fire" effect.
During the upcoming solar eclipse, the annular phase is anticipated to last for approximately 7 minutes and 25 seconds at its peak, with a magnitude of around 93%, indicating that a substantial portion of the Sun will be covered.
Solar Eclipse Visibility:
People in parts of South America, especially Chile and Argentina, will have the opportunity to witness the full annular solar eclipse on October 2, 2024, and experience the "ring of fire" effect. Additionally, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in various other locations, including the Pacific Ocean, Arctic regions, Peru, and Fiji.
According to Indian Standard Time (IST), the eclipse is scheduled to commence at 9:13 PM on October 2 and conclude at 3:17 AM. People in India cannot witness the solar eclipse. As this celestial event takes place during the night in India, it will not be observable from any part of the country.
Furthermore, this eclipse will not be visible in other Asian countries such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, or the UAE. Additionally, it will be unobservable from Europe, Africa, northern parts of North America, Australia, and Mauritius.
