TN rural local body vote counting: 5 pm status: 79-year-old Veerammal and 21 years old college student Sandhya Rani win the local body polls in Tamil Nadu. The results are pouring in from all the 315 counting centers across Tamil Nadu. At 5 pm, DMK was marginally leading with 147 against AIADMK's 143 wins in the district panchayat ward members. In the village panchayat ward members, it was the AIADMK leading again slightly, with 589 wins against DMKs 562.

After a long wait of three and a half years, the Tamil people vote approximately 77 % in the two phases of the rural local body elections. Today the counting of the votes started from 8 am. Since the polls were conducted by the traditional ballot papers instead of EVMs, the results are taking more time. After segregating the four different colored ballot papers, the results started pouring in from across Tamil Nadu. Some impressive winners of the local body polls include

  • Riya, a transgender person, won on a DMK ticket in ward 2 in Tiruchengodu

DMK has complained to the SEC against delaying the announcement of counting in many places and also its case is coming up for hearing tomorrow on December 3 in Madras High Court
