There is a clash between the supporters of Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) and of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) at Kasilingapuram village of Tuticorin district. The violence started due to the usage of “PT flags†by AMMK, with 4 were injured and being admitted for treatment in Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital located at Palayamkottai.
According to the sources, over 50 AMMK cadres were spotted waving PT flags, during the election campaign of TTV Dhinakaran for the by-poll in Ottapidaram constituency. This stirred the protest of PT supporters turning against AMMK at Echantha Odai near Vallanadu.
The verbal fight later spun into a group clash and injured 4 people of PT, which includes Kubendran (the district secretary of Tuticorin). The election flying squad lodged a complaint against 5 AMMK members in Puliampatti police station. The FIR was filed in this regard for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), said by the Superintendent of Police Murila Rambha.
The Puthiya Tamilagam leader Dr K Krishnasamy criticized this attack and urged the officials to take liable action against AMMK party. He also requested Election Commission of India to undertake necessary steps for the illegal use of PT flags by various parties.
