Wayanad Landslide: 80 Bodies Recovered, Hundreds Still Trapped

As of now, over 80 bodies have been found from the landslides that occurred in Kerala's hilly Wayanad district early on Tuesday. Rescue operations are ongoing in Wayanad and Hundreds of more are trapped in the landslide.
According to reports, the series of landslides that occurred in Kerala Wayanad district between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM near Meppadi, have left a significant impact, with over 80 bodies recovered and it is feared that hundreds more might be trapped under the mud and rubble.
In addition to that, around 116 people have been injured and are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the district. Due to the unfortunate situation, the Kerala government has declared two days of state mourning on July 30 and 31, during which all state government programs will be postponed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concerns in X account, "Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected. Spoke to Kerala CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there."
The Prime Minister's Office has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of each deceased victim of the Wayanad landslides. Additionally, those injured in the disaster will receive ₹50,000 in assistance.
