A massive landslide struck Wayanad district in Kerala, resulting in at least 19 deaths on July 30 and hundreds of people were struck. The natural disaster unfolded around 2:00 AM near Meppadi, affecting areas including Mundakai Town, Attamala, and Chooralmala.

The landslide, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall cut off access to at least four villages. There were hundreds of people trapped in the massive Wayanadu Landslide. According to reports, among them, there were two children, including a one-year-old infant from a Nepali family.

It is said that the disaster also destroyed a bridge connecting the affected villages, complicating rescue efforts. In addition to that, the constant rain in the area is not helping the situation in Wayanad.

Despite the challenging conditions, rescue teams are working tirelessly to save the villagers. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that two Air Force helicopters have been deployed to airlift the affected families.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has mobilized Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the area, with additional teams en route to expedite the rescue operations.

According to reports, it is indicated that approximately 29 houses have been partially damaged and around 700 people have been relocated to shelter camps.
