A goods train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express in West Bengal’s Siliguri causing death to 8 passengers and 30 passengers severe injuries in the train today around 8.30 am. The police and the rescue team arrived at the scene to help the passengers.

The Kanchenjunga Express (passenger train) was en route from Tripura's Agartala to Sealdah station in Kolkatamet with a tragic accident. It reported that the train accident happened after the train crossed the Siliguri station near Rangapani station. 

It is said the goods train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express from behind causing heavy damage to the last three compartments in the train. As of now, the report says 30 passengers are severely injured and 5 passengers were killed in the train accident and were sent to the hospital. 

The police, rescue team, and ambulance were rushed to the spot and helped the people. There is no clear information about the injured passengers on the train. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacted to the train accident on her X account and wrote, “Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, medical assistance. Action on war-footing initiated.”

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also on X account said, “Unfortunate accident in NFR zone. Rescue operations going on at war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working in close coordination. Injured are being shifted to the hospital. Senior officials have reached site,”
