Police arrested the accused of a 33-year-old nurse who was raped and murdered in Uttarakhand. Adding to the Kolkata doctor's death, this case also ignited public outrage.

Uttarakhand Nurse Missing:

On July 31, the victim's sister reported her missing at Rudrapur police station. Following this, the police launched an investigation into the case. The missing person was a nurse at a private hospital in Nainital and resided in Gadarpur’s Islamnagar. She lived with her 11-year-old daughter in Bilaspur Colony. 

The nurse was found dead over a week later in an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh’s Dibdiba area. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Police Arrest:

The Uttarakhand police arrested a person on August 14 in accordance with the rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse who went missing on July 30 in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district.

The accused was identified as Dharmendra, a laborer from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. Police arrested in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on August 14.

According to sources, the victim was on her way home, when she was forcibly taken to the bushes by the accused and there he raped her, then strangled her to death, and ran from the scene after robbing her of jewelry.

Police checked the CCTV footage, which revealed the victim's last known whereabouts traveling in a tempo from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. The police tracked the victim’s stolen mobile phone to Dharmendra.

Investigations:

After the arrest, in the investigation, the accused confessed to attacking the nurse while entering the Basundhara Apartment at Kashipur Road with the intent to commit robbery. He admitted the crimes of raping and strangling her to death. Later the accused escaped with the money and jewelry kept in her purse.

While the whole country is protesting and mourning for the 31-year-old Kolkata doctor's death, police arrest of the Uttarakhand nurse rape case caught public attention on social media and are demanding justice and safety for women.
