A railway employee was beaten to death after being accused of molesting an 11-year-old girl on a moving train in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The mother of the girl filed a complaint against the railway employee, and a case was filed against the employee's family for his death.
According to police, the incident took place in the 3AC coach of the Baruni-New Delhi Humsafar Express train on September 11. Reportedly, a group of outraged passengers physically assaulted Prashant Kumar, a Group D railway employee, after he allegedly molested an 11-year-old girl who was traveling with her family aboard the train.
Reports say the mother of the teen allegedly went to the restroom and came back to find the girl crying. When asked about this the 11-year-old described that the railway employee asked her to sit with her and molested her.
Shocked by this, her mother informed his husband, her father-in-law, and other passengers on the train. Enraged by this incident, the girl's kin and others started to beat Prashant Kumar, a 34-year-old employee.
When the train reached the Aishbagh junction in Lucknow, a group of agitated people grabbed Kumar and took him near the coach’s doors. They beat him until the train arrived at Kanpur Central, which is approximately 1.5 hours away from Lucknow. As the train approached Kanpur junction, railway officials detained Kumar and took him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the police.
The mother of the minor filed a complaint against the deceased with the GRP in Kanpur, while a murder case was also registered against the minor’s family and unidentified passengers based on the complaint of Kumar’s family members.
Kumar’s uncle alleged a conspiracy to kill him, claiming that Prashant was not that kind of man. "Prashant was not that kind of man. It seems he was killed as part of a conspiracy. He was beaten for so long, were there no personnel from the Railway Police Force?"
