Meghalaya: Elephant Herd Kills BSF Officer in West Garo Hills

In an unfortunate incident that happened on June 26, a Border Security Force (BSF), SI Rajbir Singh lost his life due to the elephant attack in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

Meghalaya has witnessed several tragic incidents involving elephant attacks, highlighting the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region. In this case, Rajbir Singh, a BSF Sub Inspector, a member of the 100 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), tragically lost his life while on duty at the border in the Dalu region of West Garo Hills. 

The BSF officer Rajbr had left the Chandabui camp to oversee jawans at the border when the attack took place between 5 and 6 AM. Reports indicate that a wild herd of elephants emerged suddenly from the jungle and fatally trampled him.

The incident, captured in videos has been widely circulated on social media, highlighting the sudden and unfortunate nature of the event. Singh's mortal remains have been transported to his hometown in Haryana, where preparations are underway for his final rites.

Regarding this incident, BSF posted on their X account, "26.06.2024 IG BSF Frontier HQ Meghalaya & all ranks pay heartfelt condolences to the brave heart of the nation, SI Rajbir Singh of 100 Bn BSF, who lost his life in an attack by wild elephants while performing duties on the Indo-Bangladesh Border in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya."
