Puducherry: Man Arrested, Scammed 200 Using Fake Woman Profile

Online Scam

A man was arrested in Puducherry for using a fake woman’s profile to scam men. At least 200 victims were reportedly duped into paying large sums of money, believing they were communicating with a woman.

Fake Id:

In today's digital age, social media platforms are used not just for communication but also for creating and sharing content such as photos and videos. Some misuse these platforms for fraudulent activities and start to use fake IDs.

One such scam involved a man who created a fake profile using a woman’s photos and videos to lure men into paying for video calls and personal meetings.

Chennai Woman Complaint:

In this case, a woman from Chennai became aware that her photos were being circulated on a fake profile. The scammer behind the profile demanded money from men for various interactions, 800 INR for a Phone Call, 3,000 INR for a video call, and 8,000 INR for a meeting in person.

Shocked by this, the woman filed a cyber crime complaint against the fake ID user. Following the complaint, the police started the investigation and chatted with the person under the pretence of a common person with that ID.

Who Is The Scammer?

After a series of interactions, the scammer shared his Google Pay number, which ultimately led the police to his identity. The scammer was identified as Krishnan, a resident of Puducherry who worked in a jewellery shop. He was arrested after the police traced the payments and his location.

During interrogation, it was revealed that he had scammed at least 200 men, earning over 2 lakh INR from the fraudulent activities. Using technology, he manipulated his voice to sound like a woman, further deceiving the victims.

Many of the victims, feeling ashamed of the situation, had not come forward to file complaints, allowing Krishnan to continue his criminal activities until now.
