Mamata Banerjee:

The Chief Minister of West Bengal's call for justice comes amid ongoing unrest and public outcry. Mamata Banerjee expressed deep grief over the tragedy and strongly condemned the crime.

She stated, "As far as the information I have, I will not blame the students. The incident is very unfortunate, we still say that they should be hung." She added, " This is a very big crime, and the only punishment for it is that the accused should be hung, if the culprit is hanged then only people will learn a lesson from it but no innocent should be punished."

Calcutta High Court:

The Calcutta High Court has criticized the state’s handling of the Kolkata doctor death situation, particularly the lack of preventive measures to address the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The court remarked, that given the scale of the gathering, it is hard to believe that the State police were unaware. The failure of the State machinery is evident.

As of August 16, the police have arrested 25 individuals in connection with the violence and vandalism at the medical college. These individuals have been remanded to police custody by a city court until August 22.
