Kolkata Doctor Rape Case Update

The Sealdah court ordered the main accused, Sanjay Roy, of the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College to be remanded for 14 days of judicial custody. In this case, earlier, a special court allowed the polygraph test for four doctors, RG Kar Principal, and the main accused.

A 31-year-old PG medical student was found half naked, bruised, and unconscious in a seminar hall on August 9 morning in the RG Kar Medical College. This incident created a public outrage as the Kolkata junior doctor was raped inside the hospital.

On August 23, the Sealdah Court remanded Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, to 14 days of judicial custody. Roy will remain under the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until September 6.

Polygraph Test:

In this case, recently a special court in Kolkata authorized the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar College, along with four other doctors. These individuals are reportedly involved in the case for having dined with the victim just hours before the heinous crime occurred.

Sources indicate that there are suspensions on the other four doctors have been suspended. They may not have been directly involved in the crime, but they might have been involved in tampering with the evidence.

Accused Mother Interview:

Sanjay Roy was arrested a day after the crime. He was seen entering the building of RG Kar Medical College around the estimated time of the crime.

In an interview with a private channel, Sanjay Roy's mother said, "If I had been stricter, this might not have happened. My husband was very strict, and Sanjay admired him. After my husband passed away, everything went wrong. My beautiful family is now just a memory."

She expressed hope for her son, saying, “I don’t know who influenced him. If someone framed him, they will face justice.” She also described him as harmless and caring and mentioned she didn’t know he was working as a civic volunteer at RG Kar Medical College. She added that he turned to alcohol after his first wife died of cancer.

Sanjay Roy's Mother-In-Law Interview:

But contradict his mother's statement earlier, in an interview, Roy’s mother-in-law accused him of abusing his ex-wife and demanded he be “hanged.” She said that their relationship was always tense.

She added that for the first six months, everything was fine. But when my daughter was three months pregnant, he caused a miscarriage by beating her. We filed a police complaint against him. She remained ill and said she was the one who covered her medical expenses.

Kolkata Doctor Death:

A junior doctor was found dead on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Her death sparked public outrage across the country due to alleged manipulations involved in the case.

The main accused, Sanjoy Roy, was arrested after his Bluetooth headphone was found near the crime scene. The case was created suspensions by several issues, including the initial statement by RG Kar principal, who accused the doctor of being alone at the time of his death. 

Following massive protests, the principal stepped down and was appointed as a doctor the next day which created a lot of buzz. The public turned their anger towards the government for not handling the case well.

In addition to that, there were suspicions and conspiracy theories suggesting that the doctor may have been gang-raped and that at least 8 to 10 people were involved.
