Kolkata RG Kar PGT Doctor Rape Murder Case Explained In Detail

Police have arrested a man named Sanjay Roy, a porn addict in connection with the Kolkata RG Kar medical student rape case. Amidst the situation, students are continuing to demand capital punishment for the perpetrator, and RG Kar College's principal to resign.
What Happened In RG Kar Medical College?
A 31-year-old PG medical student was found half naked, bruised, and unconscious in a seminar hall on August 9 morning in the RG Kar Medical College. The unconscious student was declared dead by doctors after checking her.
According to sources, the 31-year-old PG medical student had dinner with her juniors and went to take a rest in her seminar room as there was no proper resting room for the doctors.
In addition to that, the accused was not a worker and he had access to some parts of the hospital, and it is said that the heinous crime must have taken place between 3.00 am to 6.00 am.
Medical Student Autopsy Report:
The medical student's body was found on August 9 and was sent foe autopsy. She has injuries in all parts of her body and it was confirmed with the autopsy report that she was raped before her death.
According to reports, there was bleeding from her both eyes, mouth, and private parts. She has injuries on her face, left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.
Police said, "This is definitely not a case of suicide; the woman was murdered following sexual assault." It is also reported that the accused strangled her to death.
The 31-year-old PG medical student's death sparked public outrage across the country, leading students to join protests.
Police Investigations:
With protests from doctors, students, and nurses in various parts of India gaining speed, the police have intensified their investigations and have been questioning the doctors on duty. In this case, the key evidence of the crime was found and it is a Bluetooth Headphone which led them to the accused.
Sanjay Roy:
The accused Sanjay Roy, a Civic Volunteer has been arrested for sexually assaulting and killing a 31-year-old PG student on August 10.
It is reported that the Bluetooth earphones found in the seminar room were automatically connected to the accused's phone. Additionally, the accused was also captured on the hospital's CCTV footage.
Sanjay after committing the crime allegedly returned to his residence and went to sleep before attempting to destroy evidence by washing his clothes the following morning, according to a police officer investigating the case. Despite his efforts to conceal his actions, the police discovered bloodstains on the accused’s shoe.
Sanjay Roy allegedly married four times, and three of his wives reportedly left him due to his abusive behavior. His fourth wife passed away a few months ago due to cancer. It is also said that Sanjay Roy usually drinks alcohol behind the hospital.
In this case, police also found violent pornography in his search history. Roy has been charged with rape and murder under sections 64 and 103 of BNS. He was brought before the Sealdah court, which remanded him to police custody until August 23.
The Students Protest:
The junior doctors and students stopped their work in the hospital except for the emergency ward demanding justice for the victim. The protestors also demand the safety of the hospital workers. The Students demand,
- Considering Henious of the crime they ask for capital punishment For The accused.
- To improve the security system of the hospital with 24/7 guards.
- Add CCTV cameras in all parts of the hospital.
- To provide them with a separate resting room with an attached bathroom.
- Some even protest to give the case to CBI investigations.
In this case, the opposition party BJP also joined the protests.
RG Kar College Principal Resigns:
The principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, resigned amid developing tensions as junior doctors, interns, and postgraduate trainees stayed on strike for the fourth consecutive day on August 12.
The protest was caused by their urgent demand for an inquiry into the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman trainee doctor.
The students and medical staff had been calling for Dr. Ghosh's resignation, intensifying their protests. Following this he resigned and said "As a parent, I resign, This should not happen to anyone in the future,"
Mamata Banerjee Statement:
Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has called for the introduction of a new bill in Parliament aimed at expediting the trial and conviction process for rapists and murderers, proposing that such cases be resolved within a week and that offenders receive punishment.
"These rapists, who don't deserve to live in the society, should be dealt with either through encounter or by hanging," Banerjee stated.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeated these ideas, stating that her government will push for the death penalty for those convicted of such heinous crimes. She has also indicated that the government is open to investigations by any central agency.
