In March 2022, the High Court issued a notification to hold civil judge exams for 57 vacant judge posts in Karnataka state. Accordingly, the primary examination was held on July 23, 2023.
More than 6,000 people participated and wrote the exam. One thousand twenty-two of them were selected for the main examination, and the examination for them started today in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Nethravathi, a lawyer from Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, qualified for the main examination. However, as she could not go to Bengaluru and take the exam due to her pregnancy, she requested the court to allow her to take the exam in her district.
The High Court Appointment Committee judges, who heard the case, considered her application and allowed her to write the examination in Dakshina Kannada district. Chief Justice Prasanna B. Varale approved the decision of the committee. This is the first time such a special permit has been granted.
