Indian Railways has announced a reduction in the advance booking period (ARP) for train tickets, cutting it from 120 days to 60 days starting November 1, 2024. This change aims to make ticket bookings more accessible and convenient for travelers.

Indian Railways Announcement:

The railway department issued an update on October 17, stating that they aim to make ticket bookings more accessible for travelers. Earlier, railway passengers could make train reservations up to 120 days in advance.

However, they have now reduced this to 60 days. Therefore, starting from November 1, railway passengers will be able to make train reservations only 60 days in advance.

Reasons:

Previously, passengers were required to plan their journeys months in advance, with reservations available up to 120 days ahead. Under the new rule, tickets can only be booked up to 60 days in advance, excluding the travel date. The move is expected to benefit travelers who found the long booking period restrictive and to reduce cancellations caused by sudden changes in plans.

By shortening the Advance Reservation Period (ARP), Railways hopes to provide more flexibility for passengers while managing the demand for train services more efficiently. This change will come into effect from November 1, 2024.
