Farmers' protests continued on the 5th day at the borders, causing a huge stir across the nation. The protest has been intensifying day by day.
Farmers Protest Demands:
Agricultural organizations have announced that they will hold a blockade and protest in the capital, Delhi, emphasizing various demands, including minimum source price for agricultural produce, waiver of agricultural loans, pension for farmers, cancellation of cases filed against farmers, compensation to the families of farmers who died during the protest, revoke of the Electricity Act Amendment Bill.
The central government is taking strict measures to suppress this protest started by farmers in the name of 'Delhi Chalo'. On the 13th, the farmers started their protest, marching towards Delhi. Farmers who had left Punjab were stopped by the police at the Punjab-Haryana borders.
Central Government Vs Farmers:
Meanwhile, the central government held talks with the farmers union leaders on February 8th and February 12th. After no agreement was reached, the 3rd negotiation phase was held yesterday night. No agreement was reached in the 5-hour-long talks.
It is said that the talks will be held again tomorrow. Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Munda Arjun said a solution could be found by talking with them.
On the other hand, Haryana Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesting farmers as they moved towards the barricades installed at the Shambhu border near Ambala on Friday. Farmers blocked several national highways at Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Bathinda and Jalandhar, laid siege to several toll plazas and raised slogans against the Centre for not accepting their demands.
