Bengaluru plans to provide air taxis to travel from the main city to international airports within just 19 minutes and it is said to be 100 times safer than helicopter.

Bangalore's new air taxi service promises to revolutionize metropolitan transport, reducing the journey between Bangalore International Airport and Bangalore City from 2-3 hours to just 19 minutes. The travel covers a distance of 52 km, this air service aims to ease traffic congestion and streamline travel.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) in collaboration with the local startup Sarla Aviation, is introducing these air taxis, which utilize Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (EVTOL) technology. 

The design includes seven propellers, improving safety and making it 100 times safer than traditional helicopters, said the company's Co-founder and CEO Adrian Schmidt.

The air taxi service in Bangalore is set to feature helipads constructed on buildings over 60 meters tall, providing convenient pick-up and drop-off points across the city.

This eco-friendly and speedy air taxi comes at premium with fares priced at Rs 1,700 for up to seven passengers, it offers a significant time-saving alternative for busy travelers. The air taxis are designed for short trips of 20 to 40 km, with a maximum operational range of 160 km.

Air taxi service is expected to launch within the next three years, marking the beginning of a new era in urban transportation. In addition to Bangalore, Sarla Aviation plans to extend these air taxi operations to other congested cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune.
