Madhya Pradesh: Man Arrested For Filming Ujjain Road Rape Video

The Man who filmed a woman being raped on a footpath in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh has been arrested by the police. His action created much condemnation from the netizens.

Ujjain Footpath Rape:

On September 4, there occurred an unexpected crime in which a woman was raped on the busy road of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, and to her shock, the crime was witnessed by a passerby. Instead of helping her, the man stood there and recorded the rape on his phone. In addition to that, he shared it on social media, and it went viral.

The footpath rape itself created a lot of outrage among the public as it happens in the daylight and in the busy Koyla Phatak area of Madhya Pradesh. Adding to their frustrations, a person filming and uploading the video online created even more outrage among people. 

In this situation, the police found and arrested the rapist, who was identified as Lokesh. According to the victim, a ragpicker met Lokesh in the area. He lured her under the pretext of marriage and convinced her to accompany him.

He persuaded the woman to drink alcohol, and when she was intoxicated, he took her to a roadside shelter, where he raped her.

The Man Filmed The Rape Arrested:

The other accused in the case is the man who filmed the woman being raped. After the release of the Ujjain rape video online, it went viral, receiving a backlash from the people.

The police quickly identified the man as Mohammad Salim, a resident of Prakash Nagar, Nagda, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver. They also recovered the mobile phone that the accused used to record the video.

SP Sharma stated that the police are investigating whether the accused shot the video as part of a conspiracy. He said, "We are also trying to determine the intention behind deliberately making the video viral."

A separate case has been registered against the accused auto driver under sections 72, 77, and 294 of the Indian Penal Code, the IT Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women Act, as informed by SP Sharma.
