Tamil Actors Association To Ban Sexual Offenders For 5 Years

The Nadigar Sangam (SIAA) has recently implemented a five-year ban on people found guilty of sexual offenses within the Tamil film industry. This decision is part of a broader initiative by the South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA) to address and combat sexual harassment.

The SIAA has passed a resolution to ban persons who commit sex offenses from the Tamil film industry for a period of five years. This decision was prompted by the Hema Committee report, which brought to light cases of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry.

Nadigar Sangam Meeting Attendees:

On September 4, 2024, a significant advisory meeting took place at Nam Foundation Arena, T. Nagar. The meeting was attended by members including 

• Suhasini, 
• Khushboo, 
• Lalita Kumari, 
• Kowai Sarala, and 
• social activist Raji Gobi.

This was under the leadership of South Indian Actors Association President Nassar, Vice President Poochy S. Murugan, Treasurer Karthi, and Committee President Rohini. 

Resolutions:

During the Nadigar Sangam meeting, several key resolutions were adopted to create a safer environment for women in the Tamil Film Industry.

• Complaints of sexual harassment will be thoroughly investigated. If a complaint is verified, the accused individuals will face a five-year ban from the film industry, as recommended by the Producers Guild.
• Victims are encouraged to file police complaints. Then the committee will provide necessary legal support to victims throughout the process.
• Accused individuals will initially be cautioned. Further actions will be determined based on the findings of the investigation.
• A dedicated telephone number is available for victims to report complaints. Additionally, complaints can be submitted via email or phone.
•  Victims are advised to file complaints through the committee rather than speaking directly to the media to ensure proper handling and confidentiality.
• For actors and their families affected by defamatory content on platforms like YouTube, the committee will assist victims in filing complaints with the Cybercrime Division of the Police.
• The South Indian Actors Association will oversee the committee's activities to ensure ongoing effectiveness and commitment to its objectives.

Furthermore, the committee will appoint a lawyer to enhance its capacity to manage complaints and provide legal support to complainants effectively.
