No Tamil Movie shooting From November 1, Says TFPC

The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has announced significant new Guidelines aimed at restructuring the Tamil film industry. Following a meeting held on July 29, 2024, attended by TFPC members, executives from the Tamil Film Producers Association, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, Tamil Nadu Theatre Multiple Association, and Tamil Nadu 

After the meeting, a few decisions were made by the joint members of the associations,

  • Suspension of Movie Shoots
  • Screen Availability and Release Timelines
  • Actor and Technician Scheduling Issues
  • Rising Costs
  • Formation of a Joint Action Committee

Suspension of Movie Shoots:

All movie productions are to be suspended starting August 16, 2024. The current movie projects should complete the projects on or before October 30.

Screen Availability and Release Timelines:

The main issue of films being produced but not released due to limited screen availability of screens. The council has mandated that films starring major actors should be released on OTT platforms only after an eight-week theatrical run to avoid financial losses for theaters and production houses.

Actor and Technician Scheduling Issues: 

Concerns were raised about certain actors and technicians, who have reportedly taken advances but have not made appearances to their project but working on different projects. Dhanush's name was dragged into the issue as they especially mentioned on the notice causing shock to his fans.

Rising Costs:

The salaries of actors and actresses, technicians, and other expenses are rising uncontrollably. So, efforts are being made to regularize and restructure the industry. Consequently, all Tamil cinema-related work will be halted from November 1, 2024, as part of these restructuring efforts.

Formation of a Joint Action Committee: 

To address these challenges, a Joint Action Committee comprising producers, distributors, and theater owners will be established to resolve the pressing issues facing the film industry.
