Captain Varun Singh Only Survivor Of Coonoor Chopper Crash Passes Away

Group Captain Varun Singh, the only survivor of last week's helicopter crash in Coonoor, has died even after intensive care and treatment, the Air Force said today.
A military helicopter carrying 14 people, including CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife, crashed near Coonoor in the Nilgiris district last week (December 8). The chopper, which took off from the Sulur Air Force Base in Coimbatore district, was en route to the Ooty Wellington Military Training college. At around 12.20 pm, a helicopter crashed in a Kattery area near Coonoor.
Troops, rescue workers and Coimbatore district officials rushed to the spot and rushed to the spot. About an hour later, the helicopter caught fire. Upon learning of the accident, troops, rescue troops and Coimbatore district officials rushed to the area and expedited the rescue operation.
Of the 14 people on board in the helicopter, only group captain Varun Singh survived. He was treated at Wellington Military Hospital and later flown to Bangalore for further treatment. He was given intensive treatment. Group Captain Varun Singh died this morning even after treatment, the Air Force said. The tragedy is that the only officer who survived the helicopter crash has also died.
